The term "pinup" was coined during World War II when American soldiers would pin pictures, usually drawings and sometimes photos, of beautiful women to their bunks or in their aircraft.

Tip 1: First thing first decide what you want all pin up photoshoot, all boudoir photoshoot or half and half my favorite (Make sure you let Miss. Joy know what photoshoot style you're looking for she costume makes her set and experiences) If you have time go online and research the style you like most and then cross research that style on shopping site such as amazon to get 3 outfits assuming you don't own any pin up style clothing or lingerie. Which most people have some sort of pin up; great thing about pin up style it's super simple such as blue jeans and a plaid shirt with bandana or a simple dress. Or you can go to your local boutique for example in Salt Lake City, Retro Betty 2821 S 2300 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84109 Local thrift shops are another place to find pin up clothing just remember to have enough time to wash them.  Now if you own lingerie bring your favorites or your partner's favorite (your partner favorite dress shirt is always a cute idea as well)

If you don't any lingerie. I would buy local only, you need to try it on. Even if you have pin up clothing and/or lingerie you want to try them on as well 1 week if possible before your shoot. Do they still fit comfortably? Make sure the clothing is still in good condition. If not it's best to go buy something. Focus on your assets!
I always wash my newly purchased under garments. Make sure you have everything you need for the shoot 2 days before your appointment date. Pack your suitcase or bag the day before your shoot. In your suitcase bring 3 outfits 1. dress or pin up /vintage outfit, 2. second pin up outfit or lingerie, 3. last pin up / retro outfit or lingerie (keep in mind you will need to change in and out quickly so we have more photo taking time.) Miss. Joy will help as well. 4. one back up outfit or dress, lingerie, undies, swimwear, bras ect ect. Bonnie's Joy does provide accessories even though bring your favorite necklace, robes or other jewelry (it makes your photos more personal). If you don't own any accessories dont worry Miss. Joy will provide. Women look great in heels don't forget yours 3 outfits 3 pairs of heels. Doing the bare foot thing? No problem point your toes.

If you concentrate on one particular fabric or colourway, black satin for instance, you can mix and match, and this can often mean a more unique ‘outfit’ than if you bought everything from one place. Take at least one packet of fresh, unopened stockings, especially if they are black ones. Nude ones are more resilient, or rather snags don’t show up, whereas even worn once, black ones are likely to have snags that don’t look so good on camera. Bulldog clips are a good thing to take to shoots, especially if you borrow clothing. Even clothing that’s yours can look even better when clipped in a bit – for a shoot it can be much tighter on the waist than you need for everyday wear!

Beauty sleep! Work to eat well, get enough sleep, and generally look after yourself. Girl I understand the struggle as well. I write it in my goals often. Eat healthier options. mmmm but those cheese sticks....anyways. But if you’re feeling happy and healthy, it makes for a much better shoot than if you’re tired and run down. Whatever you do, definitely don’t go experimenting with new cosmetics or beauty products just before a shoot, or you run the risk of having a breakout. Also exfoliate your lips the night before your appointment.  Finally, this may seem obvious, but do not go out drinking the night before. Try to have an early night, so you wake up all bright eyed, bushy tailed, and above all, enthusiastic about your shoot. It should be fun! Again, if you feel good, you will look good, and produce much better photographs.

For a great experience research your poses! Are you going for cheesecake pinup or vintage glamour? Miss. Joy couches and poses but the more you know the more comfortable your going to be.
Some of the poses found in pin-up illustrations aren’t actually possible when you’re a real person! But they are fantastic for inspiration. If it bend it women look best in pictures where their arms, legs are bent. Let Miss. Joy know what poses your interested in she can help. Practice your pouts and facial expressions in the mirror for more pin up style . A,E,I,O,U are some shapes to form with your month. When doing the kissy face look Literally blow air. You might feel a trifle silly, but practice does make perfect! If boudoir only / some pin up MIss. Joy will ask you to look down, look out the window or wall, look at her, half smile, full smile.

Slightly dirty hair is so much better to curl and style for pin up style. If you’re prone to greasiness, wash it the morning of the day before, try to avoid washing it the night before as it’ll be all smooth and slippery, and thus harder to style. Definitely don’t dye it so close to your shoot for the same reasons. Have a long bath in the evening, exfoliate your body all over, shave everything you want shaved (or do this in the morning if you’re shoot isn’t until the afternoon) and moisturise. Pluck your eyebrows! Bleach bits if you need to! This preparation will make experience the best it can be.

Bonnie's Joy uses natural lighting. Make sure you have Miss. Joy contact info in your phone. Charge said phone! Call or email night before. Eat before your appointment. Arrive on time. If possible during the editing time have your significant other join you at the studio. They love seeing the photos and sharing in your experience.
